The market for R&TTE equipment exceeds 30 B€ and is undergoing rapid growth. It was regulated through an EU Directive (98/13/EC) and more than 1000 national approval regulations. As of 8 April 2000, the R&TTE Directive replaces these regulations and governs the marketing and use of R&TTE equipment.
Specified radio equipment such as cellular phone, wireless LAN and business purpose radio used in Japan is required to conform to the technical standards regulated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) of Japan. As a registered certification body, TELEC engages in the technical regulations comformity certification service for all kinds of the specified radio equipment.
Established on February 5, 1966, by the Presidential Decree No. 239, RRA is designed to ensure efficient research of radio resources and radio wave environments, and conduct research on quality certification and technical criteria with regard to broadcasting and communications equipment, thereby contributing to developing of the nation´s broadcasting and communications industry.
RRA is a government agency by the Government Organization Law, and a state-run research institute established pursuant to the Organization System of the KCC and its Subordinated Agencies
